Qoya: Coming Home
For most of us, the holidays are a time to come home and to gather with family and friends around the hearth, the dinner table, the tree or the candles.
In this Qoya class we'll explore through movement the concept of "home" - as a physical space, as a sense of belonging and as a relationship with self, other and spirit. What does it feel like in your body to "come home?" What has the journey home looked and felt like for you?
What is Qoya?
Qoya is a dance practice for women based on the idea that through moving our bodies, we remember.
We remember our essence as women is Wise, Wild and Free.
Wise, Wild and Free also draw reference to the movement forms that we will practice:
Wise: the wisdom of yoga
Wild: the creative expression in dance
Free: expanding our capacity to enjoy our bodies through sensual movement
There are no levels to Qoya and there is no way to do it wrong - you'll know you're doing Qoya right if it feels good in your body!
You should wear clothes that you can comfortably move in and that bring you joy!
Please bring a water bottle and a yoga mat. If you have something special that you'd like to place on the alter during class, you are welcome to bring that as well.
